Welcome Bionic fans! Thanks for checking out my web page. As many of you know, I am the Webmaster of THE BIONIC WOMAN FILES and THE BIONIC WOMAN TOYS websites. I've had many questions about my Bionic Woman collection since the FILES site went online in 1998, so hopefully, this will provide some answers.
IT ALL STARTED LIKE THIS...
Just like many longtime fans, I was a child of the '70s and was fortunate enough to be drawn into the exciting world of Jaime & Steve, and the OSI. I always liked watching THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN, but when I spotted a boy at school with the Steve Austin action figure and Back Pack Radio, it became my new favorite show (and I had to have one of those dolls!) The debut of THE BIONIC WOMAN the following year was also a huge hit with me. Seeing the ads in the TV Guide would only build my excitement while waiting for Wednesday night. I saved the ad from the first BIONIC WOMAN episode, and this became the start of my Bionic Woman collection.
MY QUEST FOR JAIME
Along with the TV Guide ads, I added My Weekly Reader clippings, 10¢ bubble gum cards, and The Bionic Woman board game to my collection. Friends would even save magazine articles for me, but the one big thing that I was missing...the Jaime Sommers doll. I already had Steve Austin and many of his accessories, but now I had to convince my folks that The Bionic Woman wasn't a cheesy Barbie doll, but a superhero! All of my begging and pleading, paid off and I finally got my Bionic Woman. She soon joined Steve Austin on his top-secret missions. The Bionic action was non-stop until Jaime took a tragic leap from the sofa and her left foot snapped off! She was promptly returned to the store, but not replaced. You can imagine how unhappy I...err Steve Austin must have felt. The following year, I had enough Christmas money to buy a Bionic Woman. This time she was the new and improved Jaime with that snazzy red Mission Purse. WhooHoo!
A RENEWED INTEREST
It wasn't long afterward that the shows got canceled, I started getting older, and the toys got packed away. Whenever I could, I would watch everything that Lindsay Wagner did on TV. She's always been my favorite actress, so I was doubly thrilled in 1987 when I learned of the first Bionic reunion movie! This was all that I needed to rekindle my interest in THE BIONIC WOMAN. That was also the year that I joined Lindsay Wagner's Official Fan Club. I've been an active member ever since, and have had the pleasure of meeting Lindsay on numerous occasions.
As all collectors know, the world of collecting was turned upside-down with the introduction of ebaY. Like many of you, it has been a virtual Bionic toy store for me, and my collection has grown and grown. I've even discovered many items that I never knew existed. However, I must thank Lindsay Wagner for parting with some of the rare and one-of-a-kind items that are now in my collection.
Many fans can probably identify with my "Bionic" story. We may be getting older, but our Bionic connection seems to bring back the childhood thrill that we all felt every week while watching Jaime and Steve perform super-human feats on our TV screens. I hope that everyone continues to enjoy THE BIONIC WOMAN FILES and THE BIONIC WOMAN TOYS. Thanks to all for your kind comments and continued support. -- James Sherrard
